Bar Trivia. Zombie Style.

Thursday night I went to a bar in the Lower East Side called the Magician for a game called Attack of the Brain Eaters. It is a trivia game where you start as human and if you lose you turn into a zombie. Once you become zombified, you get teamed up with another zombie and sent out looking to suck on human brains. It was all good fun, but unfortunately, once zombified, I was teamed up with a Brit who was completely useless when it came to categories such as “People who walked on the moon” (all Americans), State Capitals, and US Presidents, so unfortunately we didn’t do too well. The whole event was run by a bunch of loveable nerds called Metro Metro. I plan on attending more of their events in the future, because I had such a great time. Check them out here

Perfect Hot Toddy

Last night, because I don’t have a lot of money right now (payday is on Thursday) and because I’m not feeling too well, I stayed in and made Hot Toddys. Below is my recipe for the Perfect Hot Toddy.

2 oz. Whiskey (I like Evan Williams)
1 oz fresh lemon juice
2 barspoons honey
3 oz hot water
1 cinnamon stick
5 whole cloves
2 lemon slices

Skewer the clovers into the lemon slices and add them to a heatproof glass or a toddy glass along with the rest of the ingredients. Mix and enjoy!

If you look to the right… there is a pretty big gap between January 2005 and February 2007. What happened during this time? Below is a list of bullet points describing some of the highlights of the past two years (in no particular order)

got diagnosed with a learning disability that allowed me to take Spanish 1 instead of Spanish 3. This helped me graduate college.
became a certified bartender in Baltimore, MD (Bartending classes)
bartended at two different hotel bars, a few weddings, a night club, and an Indian resturaunt
bartended during a Shriners convention, fireman’s convention, and a lunch-ladies’ convention
burned the shit out of my hand blowing fireballs in my apartment
lived in Hampden, Baltimore for one summer
got a Flybar 1200 pogo-stick for my birthday from a handsome guy named Howie (if you saw either the stick or the guy you’d know why this is worth mentioning)
graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Television Production and minors in English and Marketing
moved to Washington Heights in January of 06
Discovered that my roomate makes wigs and hairpieces for go-go dancers at Crobar and some of the biggest drag queens in New York (including Amanda Lepore)
Bought a new queen size mattress
Discovered that mattresses are like used-cars… you can haggle over the price
Got pnuemonia and coughed up blood for the first time ever
Moved to Brooklyn where I currently reside in a large housewith 6 roomates
Threw several large parties where my guests enjoyed themselves
Got a job as a production asst. at a large advertising agency
Painted my bedroom
quit and started smoking several times
joined a gym. they have a pool there I like to swim in.
met Michel Gondry and Kal Penn (Kumar from Harold and Kumar)
bought a new bicycle for my 24 birthday. It’s a Trek and pretty nice
joined the Museum of Modern Art
went on several first dates
reunited with some long lost cousins
met my grandmother for the first time ever
reunited with another long lost cousin
started collecting sneakers
one of my nephews was born. did I mention I have three nephews?
I came out to my parents
and so much more

Furlined: The Title Explained

For this blog I wanted to have a title that didn’t limit me to a particular subject, geolocation (I live in New York City), age group, whatever. I like how Amazon.com’s name allowed them to move into more areas than if they wanted to be just Books.com.

I was inspired by both Amazon and other blogs like Towleroad and Vivid Blurry and Gawker. Their names are simple and nonspecific. Originally I was thinking Bottom Feeder. But Bottom Feeder makes me sound like someone who is crazy about analingus, as opposed to what I would want it to stand for which is “someone who loves shitty culture and holds it in high regard. a lover of camp.”

I started to look around my office. I was thinking about all the cool production and editorial companies in advertising. One of my favorite companies is Furlined. They have Dougal Wilson, Pleix, Douglas Avery, Lynn Fox, and several other really great directors. Please check out their website here for great commercials and music videos.

I then remembered that Barbarella (one of my all-time favorite movies) flies around in a Furlined Spaceship. So I thought, “what about Furlined Spaceship”. It was after that that I thought how ridiculous that would sound when people are saying it outloud to their friends or when Entertainment Tonight was talking about how funny and interesting I am. So I shortened it back to just plain old Furlined after polling my friends Jesse (a boy) and Sam (a girl). I hope the nice folks at Furlined don’t mind.

And speaking of Barbarella… Peter Webber and Sienna Miller are attached to the remake of the film. This news came out yesterday. Madness… please don’t fuck with that great movie.

Old Blog. New Blog.

I am a recent convert to WordPress.com. I think WordPress kicks Blogger’s ass. One of the things I really like about WordPress is that it allows you to import old posts from your Blogger blog. I have done this with two of my previous blogs. The first is my European travel blog (I backpacked around Europe when I was 18 for about 4 months). You can check out the entirety of my travel blog here. You can also read about my trip on the archives of this site, but for reasons I cannot explain, I couldn’t get all 31 blog entries to import, just 15. So if you want the complete version, please visit the original blog.

I really like having my first blog archived on this site, because it shows my readers that I have been blogging since August of 2001. This means that I’m something like one of the first million bloggers, and that makes me feel pretty special.

The second blog I added to this site is called Holding Pattern Thoughts. Unlike my Euro trip blog, I was able to get all the previous posts to import to this site. You can find them archived to the right. I started this blog when I was living in Salisbury Maryland and working at the Olive Garden. The title “Holding Pattern Thoughts” was designed to reflect my feelings about Salisbury Maryland and college in general. That thought being that I was waiting for a bigger and greater thing to happen to me while I waited. Most of the titles look like shit on this new page and many of the pictures have since died. I am not going to fix these things.

There is some good stuff in the Holding Pattern archive, and also there is a lot of shit.

So, welcome. I’m not sure what I’ll be blogging about here yet, but I’ll be blogging soon.

Yesturday’s Underwater Music Festival in Big Pine Key, Florida attracted 400 divers who were interested in hearing music performed by pantomines in scuba gear.

The event was started in 1984.
